Miguel is a clinician-researcher in the field of nutrition for gut and brain health. He has been described as “a creative scientist” and is known for his warm and jovial talks. He is very much looking forward to sharing his knowledge with us at our AGM this year. So that you get a taste of his work we recommend you follow him on social media: \nhttps://www.instagram.com/miguelmateas/ \nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/miguelmateas/ \nhttps://twitter.com/miguelmateas \nLeo Pruimboom: PhD. Leo is a psycho-neuro-immunologist\, (PNI) physiotherapist and physiologist. To follow is a short summary of the 2 fascinating topics he will cover: \nNutrition as medicine; the hormetic effects of ubiquitous nutrients and their care and cure impact on chronic disease. Life started with the presence of several Energetic substances in the Geothermic pool. Vitamin B’s were present in rocks and gave ‘birth’ to the development of RNA in the first unicellular organisms. Much later a unique substance appeared with the name of N-erythroid derived-related factor 2\, NRF2. This substance activates so called vita genes and facilitates the capacity to detoxify and neutralise free radicals. NRF2 appeared when oxygen levels became high and complex life started. Today NRF is still responsible for health and life span in all living organisms. nevertheless\, modern life puts a high burden on its activity and capacity to maintain homeostasis. Nutrition and certain nutrients can re-activate NRF and protect against the deleterious effects of modern life. \nIntermittent living; the universal evidence based protocol to treat chronic disease. It’s all about energy\, could also be the title of this topic. Energy distribution between the different parts of the body is essential for health and life span. Disturbance of energy distribution is the main cause of most if not all chronic diseases. A disease can be explained in many ways but there will always be a lack of ATP in the affected tissue or organ. Energy distribution is regulated through seven different pathways. It are these pathways which are disturbed by modern life producing insulin resistance\, low thyroid hormone syndrome and over activation of stress axes. The monotony of modern life should be considered the most important risk factor for disturbances of energy distribution. A life based on the use of short ancient challenges such as intermittent hypoxia\, heat and fasting can recover normal function and serve as primary and secondary preventive intervention for most of chronic diseases.

SUMMARY:How to use Oxygen to Support Mitochondrial Function
DESCRIPTION:Mitochondria are responsible for energy production. To function properly\, Mitochondria need oxygen and healthy cellular respiration. Without adequate respiration\, the mitochondria are unable to communicate with other cells\, cannot take in nutrients\, expel toxins or produce energy. \nOver a period of time\, an individual with poor cellular respiration may develop a host of degenerative diseases such as Chronic Fatigue\, Alzheimer’s\, Parkinson’s\, Autism and more. \nOxygen therapy is a rapidly developing therapeutic area\, and one that has demonstrated an ability to re-establish mitochondrial function. In this lecture\, Dr Robert Lyons MD will explain the process of cellular respiration and how different oxygen therapies work to re-establish healthy function to offset and reverse mitochondrial dysfunction. \nWhen: Mon\, 3 June 2019 \nTime: 19:00 – 21:30 \nWhere:  Hilton Hotel Dublin Airport\, Malahide Road\, Northern Cross\, Dublin 17 (Free car parking) \nCPD Points: 2 CPD points \nCost: Free of charge

SUMMARY:IHS Certificate in Health and Wellness Coaching
DESCRIPTION:Empower your clients to take responsibility for their own health and adopt a long term healthier lifestyle using evidence based\, highly effective techniques. Improve patient compliance\, client base and job satisfaction. \nDate: March 2019 \nWhere: Online \nCost: €895 \nCPD Points: 20 \nTo book & more details:  https://instituteofhealthsciences.com/course/certificate-in-health-and-wellness-coaching/ \nThis comprehensive 3 weekend / 4 day intensive in class\, or 2 months online practitioner training certificate\, written to UK level 4 (Irish level 6) is designed to offer healthcare professionals the skills to help patients make lasting lifestyle change in a way they have never been able to manage before. \nHealth and Wellness Coaching has developed as an exciting and incredibly successful healthcare profession over the past 30 years in the USA\, melding together the best of behaviour change theories\, humanistic psychology and life coaching. It recognises that most individuals know what they should be doing to ensure optimum health\, have been told what to do by numerous healthcare professionals but still can’t change their habits. Health coaches use specific communication techniques to empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health and to adopt long term healthy lifestyle choices. This can dramatically improve patient compliance and practitioner success rates making this discipline an excellent add-on for any healthcare professional. Health and wellness coaching is still an emerging field in Europe but is well recognised internationally as a vital profession within the 21st century healthcare system. Studying health and wellness coaching can propel you into a rapidly growing and well accepted discipline in both orthodox and complementary healthcare due to the evidence that demonstrates it’s role in improved patient outcomes\, medical compliance\, employee health and productivity\, and lower health care costs. \nWith 42 in-class or 32 online hours\, this course ensures that students develop practical coaching skills in motivational interviewing\, building an alliance with clients\, understanding ‘readiness to change’\, goal setting & planning and coaching in different healthcare settings. It is important to note that health coaching is not\, however\, just about building a rapport with clients and communicating effectively with them. Whilst these skills are hugely important\, true health coaching requires the practitioner to step back from their usual role as educator and instead focus on becoming an ally to clients. This course will teach students how to do this effectively and to encourage individuals to take responsibility for their own health and develop personal strategies to change that work for them. This is a step-by-step process and may involve regular and numerous face to face\, telephone and email consultations. \nReal Balance Global Wellness Services\, Inc.\, in association with the Institute of Health Sciences\, is proud to introduce this course to Ireland and the UK. Real Balance Global Wellness Services\, Inc. is approved by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as an ACSTH (a training organisation offering Approved Coach Specific Training Hours). This means that students taking this course through IHS can apply for 37 hours of ACSTH credit that can help them pursue an ICF professional credential in coaching\, if they so choose. \nReal Balance has trained thousands of wellness and health coaches worldwide and its training is recognised and approved by the American College of Sports Medicine\, The American Holistic Nurses Association and The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. Real Balance founder and CEO\, Michael Arloski\, Ph.D.\, PCC\, CWP\, is a founding father of the wellness coaching field. A licensed psychologist and professional certified coach with over thirty years of professional contribution to the field of wellness\, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors of The National Wellness Institute (www.nationalwellness.org)\, and is a founding member of the executive committee of the National Consortium For Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (www.ncchwc.org). Michael is the author of Wellness Coaching For Lasting Lifestyle Change – the seminal book of the wellness coaching field\, used by many universities and coach training schools. He keynotes\, consults and trains on lifestyle improvement and wellness coaching\, taking his message of wellness around the globe. You can read an interview with Michael\, in 2 parts\, here and here. \n“This course is the “missing link” in treatment plans – it is possible to have all the knowledge and skills in the world\, but if you don’t know how to support your client to make the changes\, it is difficult to achieve the results. I believe that the coaching skills will help to transform my practice as a herbalist. Thanks for an excellent training!”Certificate in Health and Wellness Coaching Graduate\, Naturopath and Herbalist
